Butch Byrd broke open a close 7-0 game in the second quarter with a brilliant 74-yard punt return for a TD. Punter, linebacker and ace special teams player Paul Maguire threw the key block, wiping out two Chargers. The momentum-changing play helped the Bills shut out the Chargers 23-0 on the road to claim their 2nd straight AFL Championship.
